The first image (via the SuperSabreSociety website) of the 4520th Combat Crew Training Wing differs from the lighter insignia. Backside of the lighter is engraved "4520th CCTW (TACFTR) 1960-1962. Is the version on the SSS site earlier or later than the one on the lighter? Or is it a leftover 3595th CCTW insignia from the pre-1958 ATC era? I look forward to hearing from the Fighter Experts.

I'm the one that did the SSS website patch pics from my collection and wrote the histories. I'm an associate member there to assist with their history. The metal one above was the first try at a wing patch in the late 50s. They redid it with the cloth patch pictured above. I have never seen a cloth first version, and my second version seems to be the only one known so far, but there has to be more. Never saw a known 3595 CCTW either, just the group patch which is F-100 only era but the design was carried over to the 4520 CCTG when they also flew F-105s. As with all 4 digit units, none of the designs are officially approved as these we viewed as temporary units.

Thanks very much for confirming the ID! I had no idea that was your excellent work on the SSS site. Well done!

Thanks, it was fun to do as I only put F-100 era patches up except in a couple instances where no known patch existed, like the 3595 CCTW. Their original site was horrible with maybe 10% F-100 era, so they asked me to come onboard to get it accurate. I still have about 90 more to load. I've been to 4 of their reunions in Vegas and always learned a ton of great history firsthand. Sadly, the last reunion will be in 2024 as everyone is in their early 80s and up.

Have you ever seen an example in cloth?

Of the 3595th CCTW or 4520th CCTW first version? No, I stated that in my first post that neither have surfaced to my knowledge. But we all know how that can go!

I was referring to the 4520th CCTW insignia on the lighter. I re-read your answer and you clearly pointed that out. Old age is setting in and I don't always catch and retain on the first go-around! If no cloth version has surfaced, did you see the insignia on my lighter in another reference? Polders "Motto" book? Best Wishes

I hear you there! I just looked, and it is in Polder Volume 6, page 41. But it looks like a decal, not a patch.

I'm separated from my reference library (including Polder volumes) by 1,000 miles due to them being in storage. I appreciate you looking it up for me!

Well, here you go so you can see it as well. BTW, if anyone wants to see the F-100 gallery it's at: http://units.supersabresociety.com/

Just click on the wing patches and the subordinate units will come up inside.

Now that I have the lighter in hand, here is a much better photo of the early 4520th CCTW insignia than the one from the Ebay listing.
