billl Posted July 4, 2023 Share #1 Posted July 4, 2023 I recently read that the 1909 Argentina short sword / machete was carried by some Argentines during the Falklands / Islas Malvinas battles. They are a curious item - they look like a bayonet, but they have no way of attaching to a rifle. They have no cutting edge, so they would make a poor machete. Anyway, does anyone know anything about this? This particular one is marked “Modelo Argentino 1909” with crest, and “Weversberg Kirschbaum & Co Solingen” on blade. Serial B00100. Matching serial number on sheath. I suspect that these "swords" were probably mostly ceremonial, or for "dress" uniforms. They are too long to be a good fighting knife. The last time we messaged, you were insisting that you knew more than the head of the museum for a patch that I owned, and that you knew more than the head curator of that museum. I found you to be negative and asked you to leave me alone. You replied that you were just having a bad day, and to give you a second chance. Are you always negative? Do you work at it? If you see something that doesn't interest you, you might just ignore it. That's what the rest of us do. If asked by a moderator, I'd say that this was given to me and represented as a vet bring back. An American officer did an after action analysis with a British officer, and swapped for this, so after a fashion, it's a vet bring back. I'm trying to confirm whether that story is plausible. Please do me the favor of blocking me. I'd appreciate it.
manayunkman Posted July 7, 2023 Share #4 Posted July 7, 2023 Now that’s fate because I totally forgot about you. I apologize that was years ago and my memory isn’t that good. This would really be appreciated on the WMF and I will do my best to remember your name.
