Gear Fanatic Posted June 30, 2023 #1 Posted June 30, 2023 Started building this plane in November of last year and finished this one in march, this isn’t actually a kit but a modified toy /representation of the aircraft, I added a better propeller and added ribs on the back of the tail and took off tags on the bottom from the maker and other notches not present on the aircraft. I also modified the cockpit to have the back head rest piece and a seat. The cockpit was also cut open and sanded it down to make it flush with the plane. It is supposed to be crashed on Guam from 1942 but the representation in the model shows it on 1945 after the war showing how it is rotting away. The diorama was my forest and I am still pretty proud of it.
Gear Fanatic Posted June 30, 2023 Author #2 Posted June 30, 2023 Will send better pictures, oh! And also the seat belt is made from some masking tape with som silver and black paint. I was really happy with those!
29navy Posted July 1, 2023 #6 Posted July 1, 2023 Very good job. However, I would change the location of your diorama from Guam to someplace else. As far as I know, Guam didn't have any planes to defend itself and we didn't send any planes to Guam until 1944.
Gear Fanatic Posted July 1, 2023 Author #7 Posted July 1, 2023 Oh ok! The reference I found said Guam and it heard early markings, maybe it was midway or something, so maybe this could be Guadalcanal or midway
Proud Kraut Posted July 2, 2023 #8 Posted July 2, 2023 Excellent dio, I like the weathering of the plane very much. You did a great job!
Gear Fanatic Posted July 2, 2023 Author #9 Posted July 2, 2023 Thank you! I am very proud of this one weathering wise, I really like the top “spine” behind the cockpit leading to the tail rudder, that has a lot of acrylic layering and I used a method where you just keep putting in paints before they dry and blend them with enamel thinner. The streaking I was also very proud of.
Gear Fanatic Posted July 2, 2023 Author #10 Posted July 2, 2023 A lot of details like bullet holes and back head rest are not present on up close pics as I too them before doing those. lol🤦🏼
ArtyScout Posted July 5, 2023 #12 Posted July 5, 2023 Yes, I have to concur with Lars(ProudKraut). The weathering on the plane is excellent and the foliage that its accumulated when it crashed and just from lying there is well placed and well done. Semper Fi. Manny
Gear Fanatic Posted July 5, 2023 Author #14 Posted July 5, 2023 Just wanted to add some better quality pics, these highlight the details and depth of the model but also shows some of my downfall like how the cockpit is to thick, and finger prints on the wings, and excess wash on the wings. but I think it passes the 5 foot test with flying colors…
Gear Fanatic Posted November 9, 2023 Author #16 Posted November 9, 2023 Been nothing to update on here, but I recently entered this in a local model contest at an air museum. And out of 63 models I won second place overall and 1st in my category, I had a great time talking to people and an everyone had lot’s of interest, it was pretty cool. I am now working on a P61 black widow for next years and a giant panther G. Now I can officially say this an award winning model.😂
manayunkman Posted November 9, 2023 #17 Posted November 9, 2023 Congratulations on a fine entry, keep up the good work.
