CinamonToastCrunch Posted June 25, 2023 #1 Posted June 25, 2023 I bought this gcm. Wondering if this medal could be attributed to this veteran. Also does anyone know if gcm's were attributed posthumously and engraved so?
Wharfmaster Posted June 27, 2023 #2 Posted June 27, 2023 Yes, named Army GCMs were awarded posthumously. Nice engraving. W
Allan H. Posted June 27, 2023 #3 Posted June 27, 2023 I think that the desire to attribute this Army Good Conduct to the KIA with the same initials is going to be rather problematic as there are several soldiers with the initials "E.F." and with the last name "Boss." Short of having additional items to cement provenance, what you have is a named medal, but not necessarily that of Edward F. Boss. Allan
CinamonToastCrunch Posted June 27, 2023 Author #4 Posted June 27, 2023 I am curious what sources you used to acquire this information. I used ancestry, ww2 enlistment records and find-a-grave and I wasn't able to find anyone else with those initials who could have been eligible for the medal. If you have a new source that I could use while researching these items It would be much appreciated.
