Forbes Posted June 21, 2023 Share #1 Posted June 21, 2023 Hello all! I found this site while trying to figure out what type of trunk I recently acquired. WOW what a resource you have here. I metal detect in Owen’s valley and I find lots of military items that belonged to the miners. I picked up a trunk from a local the other day and I can’t for the life of me figure out what it was used for. It has the initials E.F.B. On the front and side, and the date 1914 stamped on the top. It’s metal and wood, very heavy, and smaller than a common chest. There are a couple tension hooks under the lid, not sure if those were fashioned by the owner. Has anyone seen this type before? manayunkman Posted June 21, 2023 Share #2 Posted June 21, 2023 Those recessed handles look German. Very nice box.
iron bender Posted June 21, 2023 Share #3 Posted June 21, 2023 I concur with the above. However, the two iron latches are made by RIA I think. These are identical to the latches on the Phillips Pack Saddle system lantern boxes. I'll have to take a pic tomorrow. Cool box that will hold all sorts of dustables nicely! Great find
