I thought I would share this helmet I recently found, an M1917 medic marked helmet shell.  The entire outer shell was possibly whitewashed or painted white and has darkened with oxidation over time.  The medic markings consist of red stripes running from back to front and side to side.  The front has a red cross below what looks like an inverted arc.  I am not sure but I suspect the red markings may have been applied with iodine.  This medic may not have had access to red paint and applied the marking with iodine from his kit.  The markings have likewise oxidized to a faded rusty orange like color.  The marking also appear to be watery in consistency, dripping and pooling to the edges in some areas.  I hope you enjoyed reviewing what I consider to be a rather unique "one looker" helmet.  Thanks for checking it out!
