Hi everyone!

I ran accross this today and was wondering what era this is from. Unless I’m mistaken, its for the first Texas artillery battalion. I cant seem to find any information about them that isn’t from the civil war.1B62534B-BDD7-4321-B7A1-18542E4C4A13.jpeg.3a1cb86c8f894a0033c7da4d4a3bbe8d.jpeg61231F91-7A1E-4D6A-BD61-52D559E5A2A4.jpeg.79512b87ccbef2dceeef334a635fd6fa.jpeg

That type of screw back fixture indicates a pattern 1896 cap insignia. The size of the cannons was reduced in 1905.

Whoops!  I guess its in the wrong forum. That being said, I’m happy to be wrong haha. Anybody out there familiar with this unit’s history?

Very cool badge. Probably made ca. 1896-1905. I wonder if it could have been made for a veterans organization of the civil war unit.

Try looking for some Texas Adjutant General Reports from the period of interest online. I found one quickly for 1893-94 and the Artillery of the Texas national guard (called the Volunteer Guard at that time) was organized into the First Texas Artillery Battalion consisting of three batteries. Enough digging should give you a reasonable feel for the history of that organization.

Mars, do you suggest looking through NARA?

Try the resources in the state before NARA.  The Texas Military Museum could be of assistance.

I think more likely it's for the Texas National Guard or equivalent organization depending on time period.
