Johan Willaert Posted March 13, 2009 Share #1 Posted March 13, 2009 While cleaning off layers of old paint on a 1942 Field Safe I came across the following markings HQ 64 ORD BN Can anyone tell me what larger unit this Bn was part of? Campaigns? Thanks, Johan
craig_pickrall Posted March 13, 2009 Share #2 Posted March 13, 2009 The 64 ORD BN took part in the following: Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland. This is the area of V Corps. Since DIV's have ORD Co's I am assuming V Corps is probably the parent. ORD BN's had HQ & HQ DET w/ MED DET too. V Corps is an assumption as I could not find that in print. The unit was not awarded any unit citations.
Johan Willaert Posted March 13, 2009 Author Share #3 Posted March 13, 2009 Thanks Craig, It was found at a flea market in Belgium a couple of years ago... I'm repainting the thing but keeping the old markings visible... Will post some pictures after it's done...

Johan Willaert Posted March 25, 2009 Author Share #6 Posted March 25, 2009 Here's the result. I wanted to keep the original markings visible, but the rest of the paint was too bad to keep....
VMI88 Posted July 16, 2009 Share #7 Posted July 16, 2009 What are these safes worth? I just ran across a 1942 dated example for about $125. It's been repainted gray and would need to be restored. I could probably get it for around $100 -- maybe a little less -- but I wasn't sure what they go for. Bill
Johan Willaert Posted July 16, 2009 Author Share #8 Posted July 16, 2009 I've seen one for about that price, but that had original paint.... I guess if you have a use for it, it could be worth the buy. Any other safe will cost the same, no??
Bugme Posted July 16, 2009 Share #9 Posted July 16, 2009 Very unique and a neat find Johan! Great restoration also.
