Timberwolf Posted June 10, 2023 #1 Posted June 10, 2023 Absolutely thrilled to be able to add the m1912 dress uniform of Terry Allen to my collection. Anything outside of WWII is normally not my area of collecting but I don’t think I’ll have the opportunity to own anything WWII related from MG Terry Allen, so this is as close as I’ll get 🙂. This uniform shows his ranks as LT. Col which would date from about 1935 when he was faculty at the cavalry school. I hope you all enjoy!
atb Posted June 10, 2023 #2 Posted June 10, 2023 Worn after 1941 to have the WW1 Occupation Medal ribbon on it?

I know these blues were worn up until the 30’s and have heard of some being used until 42. He went directly from Lt Col to General so probably used as late as he could?
Rakkasan187 Posted June 10, 2023 #4 Posted June 10, 2023 Timberwolf, This is a great uniform of Terry Allen. The Fort Bliss Museum has a large assortment of Terry Allen's uniforms and equipment of his. Here is one of his helmet liners and helmets. We also have a US flag and 1st Infantry Division flag that General Allen carried with him when the 1st Infantry Division landed in North Africa during Operation Torch in November 1942. I don't have photos of these artifacts yet as we are in the process of relocating artifacts and storage cabinets. The artifacts are currently in long term storage as we prepare for a complete redesign of our museum starting in September 2023. The project is expected to take about 2 years to complete, but when finished we will house the 1st Armored Division, Ft Bliss and museum of the Non-Commissioned Officer in our facility. Leigh

Leigh Very cool! Maybe one the the museum will have a de-accession sale lol!
manayunkman Posted June 10, 2023 #6 Posted June 10, 2023 Ben you must be thrilled to have acquired such a remarkable piece of 104th history. Congratulations I am very happy for you.
KurtA Posted June 10, 2023 #7 Posted June 10, 2023 Around 1970 or so my family took a cross country trip. Being that I was so into militaria even back then, we would visit any Army fort along the way and check out the museum they all had. We visited Fort Bliss’s museum during that trip. They had just received General Allen’s uniforms from his estate. The museum curator let me look at the rack of the uniforms in his office. I clearly remember seeing bullion Timberwolf patches on some of the coats and being very impressed. All these Army forts also had great Army-Navy stores outside the main gate where I would find great stuff - especially patches (but unfortunately had a very limited budget)
Rakkasan187 Posted June 10, 2023 #8 Posted June 10, 2023 Ben, When I have some time, I will get some better photos of the Ike Jacket we have. The one we have has bullion embroidered stars on the epaulettes. The Shoulder sleeve insignia for 1st Infantry is I believe German made and 104th is standard Army issue. Not bullion on this particular uniform. We have a few though so I will look at the others and get back with you. We have one of his field jackets and some other uniforms as well as I mentioned before. The accession was so large there were many boxes of items. We have several sets of his dog tags that we are in the process of transferring a set to the National Musuem of the United States Army and 1st Infantry Division Museums. I also took some photos many years ago when the museum had an exhibit of some of General Allen's items on display. The uniform below was on exhibit as well as his helmet that I showed previously, one of his pistols/holster, a car pennant and some other odds and ends. Kurt mentioned that some of General Allen's uniforms had bullion SSIs. I believe many of these were transferred to the 1st Infantry Division Museum a number of years ago. Enjoy the photos Leigh

Rakkasan187 Posted June 12, 2023 #10 Posted June 12, 2023 Ben, Here are some images of another dress uniform of General Terry Allen that is located at the Ft Bliss Museum and based on what KurtA mentioned about seeing some of the bullion patches, here is one with a bullion 104th Shoulder patch.
