FT.Monmouth1943 Posted June 5, 2023 #1 Posted June 5, 2023 Recently picked this up in a grouping belonging to Luke E Vittetoe, who enlisted in June 1942 and served with A Co. 583rd Signal Air Warning BN. I am not 100% this actually belonged to him though since the person who I bought this from had a grandfather named Jack L T r i m b l e who also served during WWII and could have brought his back. For whatever reason, the lining was stripped out and the jacket was taken apart. If it is an actual German jacket then I might shell out the money to have the parts put back together, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it is civilian or something else entirely (this was found in Vittetoe’s duffle bag). Any information on this piece would be very much appreciated. - Jakob
Gear Fanatic Posted June 23, 2023 #2 Posted June 23, 2023 I am not saying that it couldn’t be a German flight jacket or a private purchase, but as most people know the Germans absolutely LOVED to mark things. Check for markings, those could give you a clue as to where it was from, who made it etc.
gunnarthefeisty Posted April 12 #3 Posted April 12 Sorry but no, this is an American 1920s or 1930s (most likely) Barnstormer jacket, often sold by Sears, Montgomery ward, etc. Probably his personal jacket and maybe the thread weakened over time. This would be a great candidate for restoration, imho..
