mvmhm Posted June 2, 2023 Share #1 Posted June 2, 2023 After shelling out $2600+ in car repairs in the last 3 weeks, this was a welcome surprise waiting for me this afternoon. One of our volunteers was in Michigan visiting family and returned with a box of "stuff". These were the souvenirs of (then) T4 Forrest A. Thompson (1909 - 1989) who served w/ the 30th Medical Depot as a dental tech...he remained in the Army until he retired as a Sergeant First Class in 1965 after 22 years service. These items have remained in storage since they were brought back to Michigan in 1989. First is a nice Eichorn "Derfflinger" model Army officer's sword. It has the remains of the knot and a somewhat stiff carrying strap. Mark sends

mvmhm Posted June 2, 2023 Author Share #6 Posted June 2, 2023 He must have been near a Luftwaffe base at some time...he got a couple LW sport shirt eagles that didn't fair so well, as well as a nice summer weight flight helmet w/ all the do-dads, including the internal comm parts.... mvmhm Posted June 2, 2023 Author Share #7 Posted June 2, 2023 Check out this Luftwaffe marked medic's pack! What makes it really interesting are the customs tags on it - he used this to carry some of his belongings back to the states!
