Noelle Posted May 18, 2023 #1 Posted May 18, 2023 It’s actually green, but I can’t even find a mention of it anywhere. Can anyone help? Thank. (Yes, civilian Purple Heart—about 100 Red Cross workers got them, including this woman, who survived a bombing.)
atb Posted May 18, 2023 #2 Posted May 18, 2023 The 1945 National Geographic's Insignia and Decorations of the US Armed Forces, page 32, shows the ribbon bar you show as the War Department Civilian "Overseas-European-African-Middle Eastern Theater" award. According to the article, "These awards were authorized by Act of Congress, July 1, 1943, for faithful and meritorious service for wear by civilian employees of the War Department." And, as the letter you show says for, "Workers who served with the American Red Cross outside the continental United States......"
