Unusual 506th AIR Oval

I recently had a fellow collector contact me with a question about an oval sewn to an Ike jacket. The jacket dates to the late 1950’s and has never been in collector hands. The oval looks like a 506th background trimming except that the outer border is a dark green rather than the expected white. It appears to me that the oval was manufactured this way and not simply inked to the dark color. 
Any ideas?
