rbackstrom Posted May 2, 2023 #1 Posted May 2, 2023 This has been sitting in the bottom of a sea-bag for about 40 years or so, its length is about 12 feet as it is laid out here, and has 2 openings in it as shown in the photos. I have not tried to string it up to figure out what shape it actually is when set up. Anybody have an idea what it is intended for?
rbackstrom Posted May 2, 2023 Author #2 Posted May 2, 2023 Not sure why there the photos are in multiple times. I only inserted 3 photos.
iron bender Posted May 2, 2023 #3 Posted May 2, 2023 I'm not familiar with this being USGI, interesting it is double sided camo, but I'd lean towards a pop up type duck blind
iron bender Posted May 2, 2023 #4 Posted May 2, 2023 It favors a WW2 GI cot mosquito bar but with some unusual features
rbackstrom Posted May 2, 2023 Author #5 Posted May 2, 2023 I have a USMC issued cot mosquito net, this has a more open woven fabric. This actually came out of a forgotten corner of a Marine Corps supply warehouse 40+ years ago, where it was going to be thrown out, so I grabbed it. The supply chief clearing it out came across multiple WWII issued items, all in pristine condition, most of which was disposed of via the supply system, (USMC marked blankets, WWII M1 garand cartridge belts, misc vintage 782 gear etc.)
iron bender Posted May 2, 2023 #6 Posted May 2, 2023 Interesting. Maybe a camo cover for an open bed coms vehicle/trailer? Whatever it is, I like it
rbackstrom Posted May 3, 2023 Author #9 Posted May 3, 2023 It actually came out an artillery battalion Hq Battery. The difference in the colors is due to my floor showing through the open weave of the netting, and the darker areas are just multiple layers of the fabric.
