WW2UsCollector Posted April 21 Share #1 Posted April 21 Hello, this patch is on a jumper I'm interested in buying. I know it's an aviation ordnancemen patch, but why is it just the symbol of the rate, and doesn't show if he was 3rd class or 1st class? Thanks
Salvage Sailor Posted April 21 Share #2 Posted April 21 You're asking the right questions but aren't quite there... It's a cuff mark on a Seaman's uniform, i.e. he's a Striker training as an Aviation Ordnanceman. He'll wear the rate when he gets his Petty Officer 'Crow'
WW2UsCollector Posted April 21 Author Share #3 Posted April 21 Ok, thank you. He also has an aerial gunner patch on his right sleeve. Is it possible he could've been shipped out and assigned to a combat squadron as an aerial gunner when he was just a seaman? Or would he have been stateside learning how to be an aviation ordnancemen? The uniform has an honorable discharge patch, so I'd assume he never became a petty officer.
