VNAMVET70 Posted April 13 Share #1 Posted April 13 Yesterday, spotted this Vietnam War era 1972 PBR Riverine Mark 2,boat for sale. She is fully restored with twin 50 caliber machine guns that fire. It is 32' long with 10 1/2' beam, twin 318 detroit diesels, Comes with a 24,000 lb 3-axle trailer. This PBR is in excellent shape because it never saw duty in Vietnam. Located in Shiloh, NC. Being sold by POP Yachts in Saratoga, Fla. Only $245,000. Similar to the PBR in the movie "Apocalypse Now" Here are actual photos of this PBR. Only six PBR's exist in the USA. Several exist at Bellingham International Maritime Museum in Washington State. My best friend was a gunner's mate in 1968-69 Mekong Delta and Danang......earned a Purrple Heart. He was shot in the thigh on a PBR and medevaced out to a medical ship at sea.. We are stilll close after 50+ years.
12thengr Posted April 13 Share #2 Posted April 13 Bellingham was the location where many of these riverine type boats were built. At 'Uniflite Corp' on the city's south side. Most of (if not all), of the plants buildings were destroyed in a huge fire in the mid 1980's.
