Delta1on1 Posted April 11, 2023 #1 Posted April 11, 2023 I purchased this from another collector last year and it's the most unique piece in my collection. Most of the paint has held up great, but the name has become hard to make out.
AustinO Posted April 12, 2023 #4 Posted April 12, 2023 Any guesses on what the last name might be? I took a look at the wartime Muster Rolls for Troop I at the end of the war and am not finding any similar based on the first row of what's under the unit info...

From here it looks like the last part of the 2nd line starts with an "M". It may end with "oppe". Not sure about the "o" though. If Delta1on1 has a UV flashlight that might help make t stand out a bit more in person.
AustinO Posted April 12, 2023 #6 Posted April 12, 2023 I think the bottom row says Fort Oglethorpe - the 6th was based there before and after they returned from France.
Nickman983 Posted April 12, 2023 #7 Posted April 12, 2023 I think you might be right. To me it looks like there may be another line under that, so maybe 3 in total. Could the first line be another place rather than a name?
AustinO Posted April 12, 2023 #8 Posted April 12, 2023 Georgia is probably under Fort Oglethorpe. I think I see H. Da__OYD as the name but not quite sure.
AustinO Posted April 12, 2023 #9 Posted April 12, 2023 For what its worth here is the November 1918 muster roll for Troop I:
Nickman983 Posted April 12, 2023 #10 Posted April 12, 2023 I think you're on the right track There may be an initial before it but the first legible one is either an H or an A Last name seems to be DA__OY_ Before the O I'm thinking is likely an H. After the A could be an L though I'm less confident in that. I checked the passenger list for the Kroonland from June of 1919 and looked at both I and L troops and unfortunately didn't find anything I could connect.
Delta1on1 Posted April 12, 2023 Author #11 Posted April 12, 2023 I've spent a lot of time going through the 1919 musters to try and match a name with no luck. Even after playing around with lighting and editing the pictures, I'm out of luck. I can definitely see "Fort Oglethorpe" and "Ga." below it. Good catch! The 6th would first arrive at Fort Oglethorpe in July of 1919 where they would stay until early 1942.
