I have a WWI helmet in my collection which has a net covering. Everything on this helmet looks 100% original, including the netting. I have yet to come across a photo of anyone in WWI wearing a netted helmet. Could this be a reissued lid before the Kellys were introduced? I have seen Kellys with netting used during the early Island Campaigns.

Looks like a WWII-era net added to the helmet for the Battle of Billy's Backyard to me.

The top half of the strap looks weird too.

looks like WW2 era cargo netting to me , the soldier could have added it during the early years late1930's.
