Steindaddie Posted April 2 Share #1 Posted April 2 Part of this newly acquired bomb and weapons-related lot is the patch in the center, "Semper Prontus". Per its motto, this would be the 2703rd Explosive Ordnance Disposal Squadron, but it does not look like any of the patches I have seen from that unit. Can anyone verify its identity? Thanks! Tonomachi Posted April 3 Share #4 Posted April 3 I have one in my collection (Photos 1 & 2) that looks like your patch but has this very long unit name of, "4126th Armament & Electronics Maintenance Squadron Explosive Ordnance Disposal Section". There were three other patches as part of group that was up for auction (see photos 3 thru 8) a number of years ago. I got the next two but got outbid on the last patch. They were all identified to this unit but the first two has the motto of "Semper Prontus", the third "Semper Paratus" and the fourth "Semper Padnius". I wonder if the seller was mistaken about these identifications to only one unit? The design of the first two patches and the last patch are similar with different mottos but they have 2, 3 and 1 falling bomb for maybe different companies within the same overall unit? Randy Posted April 4 Share #5 Posted April 4 IIRC the one with 2 bombs is the 2702d Explosive Ordnance Disposal Squadron, 3 bombs is the 2703d Explosive Ordnance Disposal Squadron. The one bomb on shield may be group or wing that these fell under, with the 3 stars representing the 3 squadrons, of which the above 2701 Steve posted may have been one. Of course his is more recent, but the history may trace back to these. Pretty sure it was supposed to be the same motto, but the R became an A and the O a D under the hands of someone that didn't use our alphabet. Not sure as this isn't my area. The 4126 designations were for a SAC wing at Beale AFB, so I don't think that's correct. The green one could be a det or totally unrelated with that Torii gate one there. Semper Paratus is one of the more common mottos out there. Randy
Randy Posted April 4 Share #6 Posted April 4 A quick look does show a 2700 Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group. Was at Hill AFB from 55-60. It also had 15 dets. So hopefully this and the above explanation helps. Randy
Steindaddie Posted April 5 Author Share #7 Posted April 5 I appreciate all the helpful information. Mottos of USAF 4-digit units are always tricky, given that the rules of the game don't apply to them. I know next to zilch about EOD stuff and confess to buying the patches because the 92nd Bomb Wing was tucked in the lot.
8240th A.U. Posted April 6 Share #8 Posted April 6 Anyone know what the "Parati Valemus" patch is? That broken arrow relates to nuclear weapons, isn't it?
Randy Posted April 6 Share #9 Posted April 6 Believe it's the 7410th Explosive Ordnance Disposal Squadron. They also had Dets all over USAFE if a recall correctly. Randy
