Austin R Posted April 1 Share #2 Posted April 1 I can't say I've ever seen a cylinder set up like this before. This is just a guess, but it may be part of a supplemental oxygen system. The cylinder itself has a manufacturers date of May of 1954.
P-59A Posted April 14 Share #3 Posted April 14 That is not a walk around bottle. Its made to be mounted. I would agree with it being supplemental or emergency back up. I have not seen one either, but that is very cool!
phantomfixer Posted April 14 Share #4 Posted April 14 I'm going to guess the carry strap utilized the bracket mounting holes used to mount to the airframe...designed as a mounted bottle but converted to a walk around some time in its career... This pic shows typical walk around bottles still used by the USAF...on the right is the red bag with smoke mask attached to a wall mounted walk around bottled that can be removed from its mount... unlike the OP that is bolted into its mount
RWW Posted April 15 Share #5 Posted April 15 Keeping in mind where and how the bottle was found, is it possible it was put together from assorted parts? I have looked through everything I have and can't find anything like it. I can find some of the parts, but not the complete assembly.
