bryang Posted March 4, 2023 Share #1 Posted March 4, 2023 This arrived in the mail today. A 9-foot long German flag/banner, with the original packaging it had been shipped from Germany to the United States. The U.S. Soldier who shipped this flag home to his family is Sgt Robert L. Sigl, of Appleton Wisconsin. Sgt Sigl was a member of Company K, 398th Infantry Regiment (100th Infantry Division). I found online a .pdf copy of the WW2 history of the 398th Infantry, as well as a roster of the 100th Infantry Division. I found Sgt Sigl in the division roster. Looking online, I believe that Robert L Sigl is still living and in Appleton, Wisconsin, at age 99. Apart from the unit book and roster, I've found no other information on Sergeant Sigl. The flag is large - 9' x 3'

gitana Posted March 4, 2023 Share #3 Posted March 4, 2023 Look him up and give him a call. The flag must have come from the family.
JasonT Posted March 5, 2023 Share #4 Posted March 5, 2023 Unfortunately I believe Mr Sigl has passed, according to his sisters obituary in 2017, which he is referred to as her late brother. https://www.valleyfh.com/obituary/Marilyn-Schenck
