This was in my dad's house and I'd like to ID it and sell it. Any ideas about it? I can see any maker's marks and it appears to be fairly old. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, BrianResized_20230222_162311(2).jpg.a060b641ac2892dc0ad8217494b2ef41.jpg

It is German, I believe a M1873 artillery saber.  As it is not US Militaria I would recommend you post it on the world militaria forum as I am sure the moderators will lock this topic.

Sorry, not 1873 but 50 years or so earlier.  A fairly common pattern used by the US militia after the 1812 War and before the Mexican War..  I started a thread on US militia swords and the sword posted here fits the bill.

My sister and I conferred long distance and she was able to put the saber back together with the cap on the end of the tang. Still can't find any exact looking sabers. Thought you might be able to seeing it all together.

I agree with Glen this is probably a post-War of 1812 militia saber.  The general style is very common, but I don't think I've ever seen a tang screw cap like yours.  Normally the tang is peened.  Here is one of mine:

Does that make it more desirable with the cap? I’m trying to nail down value and with so many variables it’s been difficult. Thanks for your input! Brian

It is brass and the end of the tang is shaped to allow the cap to be placed on top. I haven’t seen any bird pommel sabers with this feature. There are no threads on the cap or the end of the tang but the cap fits pretty tightly on the end ot tang but not tight enough to hold everything together
