Hillbilly knife guy Posted March 2, 2023 Share #1 Posted March 2, 2023 Picked up this pal mk1 for cheap. And wanted to see your favorite WW2 USN knives in your collection! This one is my favorite in my collection. Also any info for the yellow marking on the back side of the scabbard would be appreciated. Thanks! VNAMVET70 Posted March 3, 2023 Share #4 Posted March 3, 2023 Here's a PAL36 that I like a wee bit more than my KA-Bars.
SolWarrior Posted March 3, 2023 Share #5 Posted March 3, 2023 Very nice blades, gentlemen. I have two WWII USN Camillus Mark 1s. My favorite is the earliest version, the bright blade issued with the leather sheath.
Charlie Flick Posted March 6, 2023 Share #6 Posted March 6, 2023 What's my favorite Navy knife from WW2? That would be hard to say, as I like a bunch of them. However, I do have these pics handy of one of my Mark Is, in this case a Boker. It is one of my favorites. I guess that it is that blued blade and the one piece sheath that gets me. SKIPH Posted March 6, 2023 Share #8 Posted March 6, 2023 My favorite WW2 USN MK2 was the one I was issued in 7th Special Forces Group. This knife had a lot of overseas trips, and a bunch of parachute jumps. The knife has the ODA 733 engraved on the blade, and we were allowed to keep these after the teams received the M9 bayonets. sactroop Posted March 6, 2023 Share #9 Posted March 6, 2023 This is a little bit like asking me "who's my favorite guitar player?" Impossible question. If I tried to narrow down the field, concerning Mark 1's, I do tend to gravitate between the Camillus with it's unique saber ground blade and the synthetic handle, (tenite), of the Colonial. But the Mark 1's in general are such good utility knives.
WarBaby Posted March 6, 2023 Share #10 Posted March 6, 2023 I am a sucker for blued blades. I'll add some this weekend to this thread.
SKIPH Posted March 6, 2023 Share #11 Posted March 6, 2023 sactroop's comments ring true for me also. I have 22 x MK2s, and 19xMK1s. Quite a few are actually mint examples. So the one I choose is the MK2 I actually carried for years. It got a lot of use, but never abused. SKIP

Regarding the marking on the back of the scabbard, I would bet it was the original owners last name (COMB?). I do like identified knives and my favorite NAVY knife is this aluminum handled blade that is named on the blade along with his serial number. He served aboard the USS VESTEL during the war. Knife has seen a LOT of use but then I only paid $7 for it! haha

mikedon Posted March 12, 2023 Share #15 Posted March 12, 2023 My favorite WWII USN knives are this uncommon variation of the KA-BAR Mark 2's. These KA-BAR Mark 2's are blade-marked "KA-BAR" and guard-marked with one "USN" on each side of the guard. They have the common dark Parkerized blade finish and a rectangular peened pommel. It is often referred to as the “double marked” KA-BAR. It is shown on page 365 in Bill Walters book. Frank Trzaska talks about this KA-BAR Mark 2 variation in his August 2006 Knife World article “The USN Mark 2”. I did not know it existed until I read his article. I then started looking for them and found my first one in February 2007.
zk4298militaria Posted March 20, 2023 Share #16 Posted March 20, 2023 It ain’t much but it’s my only navy knife, Colonial Mk1. Came from a church yard sale for a buck.
