ocsfollowme Posted March 2, 2023 #1 Posted March 2, 2023 This is the only one that I can find on the internet like this. 4" in diameter None have the detail on the devil like this one. This came in a really nice frame so it could have been a prototype made for the unit. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/107th_Fighter_Squadron The Airplane is an A-7 Corsair. According to the website, they flew this airplane from 1979 to 1989.
Arlyn Posted March 2, 2023 #2 Posted March 2, 2023 No, that is really the Michigan Air National Guard A-7D and A-7K patch. Attached is a photo of one of their planes. The red guard over the intake is to protect the aircraft from F.O.D. (foreign object damage) to the engine blades during ground engine test run ups. It was part of the 107th Tactical Fighter Squadron, 127th Tactical Fighter Wing. The exact plane below was assigned to the 107th TFS after it was transferred from the 75th Tactical Fighter Squadron of the 23d Tactical Fighter Wing in December 1975. After is served with the Michigan Air National Guard this Corsair was transferred to the 6512th Test Wing at Edwards in late 1989. Then on 21 September 1992 it was retired to AMARC with inventory code AE0212. In late 1996 it was moved to the United Scrapyard for chopping and was destroyed. That is a real 107th TFS patch.
Randy Posted March 2, 2023 #3 Posted March 2, 2023 Yes, it is a real patch, but what Steve is talking about is it is different than those that followed it. I believe this to be the first version used after the A-7D conversion in 1979. As you can see by the attached pics it changed details several times. There is at least one other besides the 3 depicted in the thread here. Happens quite often, especially with unofficial designs such as this. The top patch is Taiwan made early 80s, bottom mid 80s. Note even more changes. The original posted above is very hard to find. Go here to them all: http://usmilitarypatches.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=73&page=15
