cerick1450 Posted February 26, 2023 Share #1 Posted February 26, 2023 Hello How does this Camillus with cabbard look? It is marked US M4 Camillus. It appears to be in excellent shape with only store/age wear. It has a leather washer handle. Is this an early version? Thank you
SKIPH Posted February 26, 2023 Share #2 Posted February 26, 2023 cerick1450- It's actually a post WW2 Camillus M4 produced on their 1953 contract. It has the post WW2 wide guard, the pommel has the letter'X'. In the 1990s Camillus produced a reproduction of the 53" contract version, with several differences. The 1953 version has the pommel peened on to the tang, the 90s is not, easiest way to tell the difference. There are differences in in leather handle and letters in the stamped Camillus name. cerick1450 Posted February 26, 2023 Author Share #4 Posted February 26, 2023 Thank you for the information. Do the 1953 contract bayonets have much collector interest?
Misfit 45 Posted February 26, 2023 Share #5 Posted February 26, 2023 Absolutely.. All leather M4s are highly collectable. There were likely far less Camillus1953 M4s made than any of the WWII contractor companies. Marv
