Survival Posted February 25, 2023 Share #1 Posted February 25, 2023 This came from the estate of an U S Army Vet who served in the pacific theatre during WW2. Its in relic condition and might be British Commonwealth. Appears to have the letters R V with possibly a British Broad Arrow mark in between. Does this look familiar to anyone? Many thanks in advance.
atb Posted February 25, 2023 Share #2 Posted February 25, 2023 It resembles a French "serpe," a bill hook. Bill hooks were standard French Army tools.
jim_mi Posted February 26, 2023 Share #3 Posted February 26, 2023 I have a similar knife that I obtained at a garage sale many years ago. It was identified by a local antique dealer as a fascine knife, and probably from the Revolutionary War era. Mine has a blacksmith's mark on the blade, and a loose handle that appears to be made of animal horn, hollowed out and slipped over the tang. Here's a web page with a bit more info: https://www.horsesoldier.com/products/edged-weapons/knives/24926 If I can find it (you know how that goes...) I'll post a pic or two.
