Your clues...

"I was in the U.S. Air Force, assigned to a detachment officially known as the Fourth Epidemiology Flight. We were headquartered in the Eski Hastane (Old Hospital) at Otuz Dokuz (39) Mustafa Bey in Izmir."

I ran across this certificate of participation that was given to all members of the Fourth Epi who participated in the surveys. The shield on the left is the 16th Air Force and the one on the right is our shield and if you can't read it, it says Find, Study, and Prevent. The blackened out encampments were the ones I participated in.

Wow! I didn`t expect anything on this one. So is it safe to call this a TUSLOG 36 patch?? Your reply is the only thing I`ve seen about this after all my hunting. I`ve been to the TUSLOG page in the link you gave before, but haven`t been able to read up on any of the detachments using that page. And I never thought this patch had anything to do with TUSLOG.

Thanks again!!

I have the identity of the patch you were inquiring about, earlier today. Based on the image description, the patch image itself and the web search results,  this emblem appears to belongsto the Aerospace Medical Research Laboratories (AMRL), which was a research laboratory of the United States Air Force. According to the Wikimedia page, AMRL was established in 1961 and was responsible for conducting research on aerospace medicine, human factors engineering, and bioastronautics. The emblem of AMRL has a brown background with a blue diagonal stripe, a white medical symbol on the left, and a white caduceus on the right. The blue banner at the bottom reads “FIND STUDY AND PREVENT”, which reflects the mission of AMRL to find, study, and prevent health hazards and performance decrements associated with aerospace operations. AMRL was deactivated in 1997 and its functions were transferred to other organizations.
