Guest Sairey Posted February 9, 2023 #1 Posted February 9, 2023 Hello! My small museum has been offered this coat and braid for our collections. The donor says it is Spanish American War vintage but my research hasn't turned up anything like it. So far, i can tell it is a USMC dress blues coat, but I don't know what the braided item is, or the insignia on the right arm. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
atb Posted February 9, 2023 #2 Posted February 9, 2023 Looks like a US Army pattern 1902 enlisted coat with an Ordnance Corps private first class chevron (the flaming bomb) and piping in the Ordnance Corps branch of service color. The braided cord with "waffles" is the dress cord worn on the shoulder and across the chest. The sleeve stripes are service/enlistment stripes. One is for an enlistment in the Infantry (white), and the other is for an enlistment in the he Cavalry ,(yellow). It is not a Marine Corps cost.
