555th parachute unit.

I was curious whether anyone has any information about the 555th parachute unit, I think that it was attached to the 82 nd airborne. Thank you.

The triple nickel was the black parachute regiment that was used in top secret missions as smoke jumpers.

 

The Japanese were using balloons to start forest fires on the west coast and the 555 was parachuted in to put them out.

Thank you, a friend of mine’s father was a member. He told me that his uncle worked on the 1942 trans Alaskan highway also.
