tully216 Posted February 5, 2023 #1 Posted February 5, 2023 I picked up a Offensive grenade with a tin body. Overall good condition with what I think is typical rust here and there. I had to use a little oil to loosen up and remove the fuze. After doing so I noticed rust in spots on the inside. My thoughts to slow or stop the rust inside- Use Ospho inside let it dry. Then use primer and a top- coat of paint. Has anyone else tried to do this, with success? Would this decrease the value of the grenade? It is a WW 1 grenade, I figure the body material is similar to a illumination grenade or gas/smoke. Any experience or thoughts would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in Advance, Mark
themick Posted February 5, 2023 #2 Posted February 5, 2023 I would suggest first off, show a good picture or two of it. Good luck! Steve
917601 Posted February 6, 2023 #3 Posted February 6, 2023 Painting not advised. Reduces collectibility. I use Renaissance Wax, as do many museums. It is clear, inert, and seals the oxygen transfer.
tully216 Posted February 9, 2023 Author #4 Posted February 9, 2023 Thanks for the input. My issue is I wanted to seal the inside of the grenade. I do have the wax no sure how I would use it on the inside. Thanks, Mark
