Mr. Scratch Posted February 4, 2023 Share #1 Posted February 4, 2023 One battle-damaged Japanese helmet and canteen. Both are covered with painted-on commentary by some American servicemen. Curious thing here; in spite of them being similar-sourced items, painted with a similar theme in similar writing style, with similar paint, I found them 10 years and 1500 miles apart from one another. Makes me wonder if these weren't a product of the (in)famous and lucrative SeaBees Souvenir Inc that provided much-needed war souvenirs for ship-bound sailors, and extra cigs and beer for Island-bound soldiers and Marines throughout the war. If so, these may have even been embellished by the same hand.
