manayunkman Posted February 2, 2023 Share #1 Posted February 2, 2023 In all the years collecting I’ve never found anything like it. Tailor made Navy jumper with a four fingered dragon.
GAZOO Posted February 2, 2023 Share #2 Posted February 2, 2023 Love it, Wonderful condition 😃 Noticed you made a special note of the "FOUR FINGERED" Dragon, Is that something of significance ? EDIT: Did some fast research just a second ago, and found this. Very Interesting FACT I did not know. Thanks for the seed of knowledge "The four-clawed dragon would be used typically for imperial nobility and certain high-ranking officials. The three-clawed dragon was used by lower ranks and the general public (widely seen on various Chinese goods in the Ming dynasty).

But this is the first time I’ve seen a Seafarer done with buttons. Very nice, and an SM at that.

Im also into antique Chinese textiles.

Its part of a larger group here is some of it. I posted the flag in another section. This sailors father was killed in WW2

When I was there both as recruit and as Company Commander, they were just the number. This is lots better.
sigsaye Posted February 2, 2023 Share #7 Posted February 2, 2023 Point of accuracy. This is NOT, “Tailor Made”. These uniforms were off the rack in shops all over Navy Towns. And, the Dragon Patch was a standard feature of all Seafarer blue jumpers. What’s special and an alteration, it the button front. It’s most likely hidden by the neckerchief and strictly a “Liberty Uniform”.

Yes, Seafarer is a brand name. Most famous for dungarees, that helped get rid of the “CPO uniform” and Zumwalt Utilities of the mid 1970s. Going to “7Seas”, or many other shops and picking up a set of Liberty blues, getting them altered for the “Perfect Fit”, picking out some “Liberty Cuffs” and/or other fancy interior embroidery was a real thing back before civilian clothes were authorized for Ship Board Sailors. I know they also made whites, but very rare to see them. Whites were considered a “Disposable “ uniform. When you wore them everyday, they might make it to the end of summer, before they were so trashed you couldn’t wear them for Liberty or watch.
