obal7 Posted January 23, 2023 #1 Posted January 23, 2023 As I mentioned in my first post “Help identify Old US uniform”, this is the related reference to the 2nd uniform. this is, what I believe to also believe to be an early 1900’s era US Army Dress uniform. From the collar tag, it appears to be made by “Harold &Son(?) 239 Fifth Ave New-York. The buttons are MC Lilly &Co, Columbus Ohio. if at all possible, it would be greatly appreciated if I can have help identifying the era, type, rank and branch of service. Any other thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Woodymyster Posted January 24, 2023 #2 Posted January 24, 2023 1902 Officer Dress Frock Coat. I count 6 buttons per row, but should be 7 if in use between 1902 and 1907 (assuming it is federal). The Blue collar signifies infantry. The single gullion on the cuff represents 1st Lieutenant. It is missing shoulder knots on the shoulders as well as infantry insignia between the sleeve bullion and gullions
obal7 Posted January 24, 2023 Author #3 Posted January 24, 2023 Thanks. I thought that blue meant infantry. But I didn’t know it was supposed to have an infantry insignia. I didn’t know that the single strand guillion meant 1st Lt. Matter of fact, I’ll have to recheck it but I think the 2 lower buttons were removed. I thought it might have been removed for a belt, or some other reason. mill look around for some shoulder knots. I think they are the screw in type. thanks again. Did you happen to see my other post, on the other Uniform? it would be interesting to also get your thought on that on too. thanks again.
ludwigh1980 Posted January 24, 2023 #4 Posted January 24, 2023 Hello, check the inside pocket for a name. Some of these early M1902 officer frocks were converted M1879 Officer frocks and you will find on occasion a coat that has a date from the 1890's on the tailor tag well as the officers name which is researchable. This one looks like an early example.
obal7 Posted January 24, 2023 Author #5 Posted January 24, 2023 Thanks. I will do that and get back to you.
obal7 Posted January 24, 2023 Author #6 Posted January 24, 2023 There is no tailor tag in the pockets. and yes, the 2 lower buttons (one on each side) in the front are missing.
