Chris Posted January 14, 2023 #1 Posted January 14, 2023 I just bought this today, from the family estate. Doolittle was born March 29, 1921. He earned his wings and commission in November 1943. He flew P-38s and P-51s on 70 missions over Europe with the 479th Fighter Group (8th AF) and shot down 3 German aircraft. He was awarded the Legion of Merit, DFC, and 6 Air Medals. After the war, Doolittle signed up with the Oregon National Guard and commanded the 123rd Fighter Squadron. Eventually, he became the commander of the Oregon Air Guard and retired a major general in 1977. This group includes his mess dress jacket with mini medals, a set of tans with ribbons and bullion wings, two visor caps (both have Doolittle's calling cards in the liner), his brigadier general and major general flags, the nameplate from his Air Guard office, a certificate, a couple bullion wings, and a copy of a photo of Doolittle and his crew chief in front of a P-51. I am hoping to acquire a few more odds and ends. But, a neat Oregon group.
manayunkman Posted February 2, 2023 #5 Posted February 2, 2023 Excellent group!! Congratulations on this fine acquisition.
