w10085 Posted December 26, 2022 Share #1 Posted December 26, 2022 I have a 1916 copy of "Manual for Quartermasters" that is named. See the pictures. Looking up the name online, I'm pretty sure I found the original owner's headstone. What unit do them mean when they say "311 Supply Co OMC"? I would guess it is attached to the 311th Infantry Regiment but I was not sure. I wanted to run down some more info on Mr Carraher and his unit. Thanks in advance! Salvage Sailor Posted December 26, 2022 Share #2 Posted December 26, 2022 311th Supply Company, Quartermaster Corps, served in Belgium (Antwerp) & France 1918-1919 This unit was not assigned to the 311th Infantry Regiment (nor the 311th Supply Train, a different type of unit entirely) All supply companies were considered part of the Quartermaster Corps, just as engineer units were part of the Corps of Engineers, infantry units were part of the Infantry Branch, etc. Unfortunately, there's little documentation on the activities of individual supply companies Traces of other members of the company online below FRED CARL MOWINKEL born November 8, 1920; Jane Ellen, born July 12, 1923; and Mary, born May 23, 1927. During the World War Mr. Moyer served from January 26, 1918, until May 28, 1919. He held the rank of sargeant in the 311th Supply Company of the quartermaster corps, and was over seas from June, 1918, until May, 1919. He is a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

w10085 Posted December 27, 2022 Author Share #4 Posted December 27, 2022 This is some great stuff!! Thanks so much. I would have understood it better to begin with if I have correctly read QMC instead of thinking it was OMC. It's alway interesting to put stuff like this together. CAC1901 Posted December 30, 2022 Share #5 Posted December 30, 2022 What a cool manual. I find support material more interesting than drill manuals etc.
