Michael the Young AEF Guy Posted December 16, 2022 Share #1 Posted December 16, 2022 Hello again everyone. Today I bring an interesting piece that a friend of mine sold to me. A Campaign hat crudely cut and decorated to be worn underneath the helmet. This piece is not named, however it's obviously to a member of the Motor Transport Corps, depicting the insignia of an M1917 helmet wing wings over a wagon wheel. It bears U. S. A. On three columns, and the bottom row consists of stars, a well drawn truck, an artillery piece surrounded by soldiers, and what I believe to be either biplanes or an aerial bomb. Photo of it sitting in an unrelated M1917 helmet's liner for reference. Have any of you fine folks ever encountered something similar to this? Looking forward to hearing people's thoughts! aefcav Posted December 16, 2022 Share #2 Posted December 16, 2022 Really cool. I think anyone who has worn a steel pot of any vintage will understand “ why” this was done! My forehead still has a lump from Airborne school!
