JosephC Posted December 10, 2022 #1 Posted December 10, 2022 I purchased this grenade at an antiques store. I felt that it has the characteristics of an early us grenade with the lead plug bottom, narrow thread top and foundry markings but the fuze is newer and the paint color is nothing I have seen on an issued grenade. it is like a lime green. If the body does look good do you think it was made up for novelty or surplus sale or is it an overall fake. The fuze is fired off. Could this combination and paint scheme have been issued?
JosephC Posted December 10, 2022 Author #2 Posted December 10, 2022 a search of the forum for M201A1 found fuze to be for a pyrotechnic canister type grenade.
Kaptainssurplus Posted December 10, 2022 #3 Posted December 10, 2022 The fuze is a modern m201 used on smoke/chemical grenades, as you found out. It is not correct for that body. The correct fuze to get for it would be a M10A1 or A2. The grenade body is a type 2 prewar MK2, late 30s early 40s. It has been repainted, looks like over rust too. IMO I would strip to bare metal, clean the metal and paint it original yellow.
