JosephC Posted December 5, 2022 #1 Posted December 5, 2022 I have this grenade body in collection; all looks and feels like original based on others I have except there are no threads in top or bottom of the grenade. is this a blank that was pulled from production before threaded? would this model have t hreaded top and bottom and if so does anyone know the tap sizes used? Im wondering if it makes sense to try and tap it or leave as is for what it is.
Kaptainssurplus Posted December 5, 2022 #2 Posted December 5, 2022 It's a 1930s type 2 MK2 prewar body, a finished version would have been threaded top and bottom, top for the fuze and button for the fill hole plug. Reasons it may not be threaded- could have been a reject/bad casting, someone pulled it off the line, or maybe left that way for use as a training dummy. It's hard to say 100%. Since it's an unfinished one, with multiple possibilities why, you can do anything you want with it, wouldn't hurt the value much at all, if you thread it nicely/properly add a fuze and proper fill plug, it could actually improve the value, but also would be shady if you did and sold it as original, unless you disclose the fact you did. Some people may not care but real grenade/ordnance collectors may not like it. Ultimately it's your to do with as you want.

917601 Posted December 5, 2022 #4 Posted December 5, 2022 Leave it as is. It has all the hallmarks of an original grenade, but unfinished for many reasons ( failed dimensional checks, failed weight, pulled foundry number lot, etc…).I have seen over the years a few of these.
