The Combat Infantryman Badge

The detail on the wreath looks less defined than on the typical government manufactured CIB's I usually see. Especially notice that the width is not consistent all around. It looks a lot like the beercan CIB my father brought home from Vietnam that appears to have been stamped in thin metal and crudely hand painted. I'm not saying this is Vietnam era, just that the wreath makes me think it was theater made somewhere and based on the ribbons I would assume Japan.

There's no question that it's post-war - the Ike Jacket it's on is dated 1946. It's also definately non-reg. I was just hoping someone else might have another Japanese made example to compare it to.[/font]

From what I can tell of your CIB based on the photos you have posted and the description, I do not believe it is Japanese made, but a PX purchased American made item.

If you post some clear photos of the back, we might be able to tell for sure.

Yes I made the display card

I know the subdued one came of a desert storm 3 color desert uniform

the sterling and the 1/20 silver I think are from Korea and Vietnam era

Jim-

That is a NICE one!

I love the acorn wreaths, and it's a pinback, too!

I have no proof, but always felt that these were late 40s to mid-50s.

Whatever, I'd be proud to have it in my collection.

Steve,

This is what I was waiting for. I saw this type of badge some time ago either here or elsewhere and knew if I was going to get a 2nd award CIB it would be this one. Finally, not too long ago this one popped up on eBay and I got it for a song. It has been made into a 2nd award by the application of a star to the top of the bar so that it does not touch the wreath. I really like this style. In the second photo you can see the nice curve of the badge and the separately applied rifle (same as the pin back above).

Jim-

You need to send both of those to me for uh, "further study." Yeah, that's it....further study.

VERY nice, and I'm not jealous at all.

Seriously - very, very nice. Now I have one more thing to look for!

What about these, info ?

I'm pretty sure those are Vietnamese made, probably from around 1965-1968 or so, for wear on a jungle jacket. It looks like they were hand embroidered.

Thanks, they came with other Nam patches but I wasn't sure. Kinda crude but nice in real life.

I jumped on this piece when I saw it, never authorized but cool anyways. Either a 4th or 8th award by NS Meyers, I will post better pics once it is in hand! Ever since I saw Craigs example, I have wanted one.

Unmarked 2nd award with the wreath detail that I love so much............ perhaps Asian made?
