firefighter Posted December 22, 2018 Share #1901 Posted December 22, 2018 This grouping represents the service of the ONLY USMA Graduate who was a POW prior to graduating from West Point. During WWII he was an enlisted man serving with the "Golden Lions" , the 422nd Infantry , 106th Infantry Division who was captured during the Battle of the Bulge. The most interesting piece is his USMA Cadet robe which he put a number of pieces of his insignia on. The CIB is ususual because the background is USAF blue, since that was his branch of service after he graduated. 01604c23fc0eddb51e8effb686b6106a01a6fe1aa7.jpg 011e2676f689bc6e9da293010b313965bbde0db7ba.jpg That is awesome.Thank you for sharing

BILL THE PATCH Posted January 31, 2019 Share #1905 Posted January 31, 2019 Interesting badge Bill, pins on back look Japanese., that's what I was thinking Japanese made. That's weird because it came off a 91st div Ike, and they we're not in the PTO as we all know. Could they maybe be German made?
BILL THE PATCH Posted January 31, 2019 Share #1906 Posted January 31, 2019 I've been looking for a 3rd award Sterling for awhile now. Found this pretty reasonable. Is this a gemsco Hallmark?

rd12 Posted June 19, 2019 Share #1911 Posted June 19, 2019 This rare German-made badge ( L.CHR.Lauer ) sold on eBay recently. These don't show up very often at all. I have seen some that look identical in every detail except they lack the maker stamp. I believe that the same firm made these but didn't mark them. I saw a CIB like this on a uniform at the SOS a few years back with DIs from the Nuremburg Trial. The DIs were also marked "L.CHR.LAUER". This makes me think the early badges were marked, and later runs were not. Just speculation though.

rd12 Posted June 21, 2019 Share #1913 Posted June 21, 2019 Here's a nice one I was able to add to my collection, first one I've found marked like this. Williams & Anderson in STERLING. My other W & A badges just have the logo and letters "GI".

rd12 Posted July 11, 2019 Share #1919 Posted July 11, 2019 I was never sure what time period it was from, but I came across this picture of a 1st ID ( 18th IN Regiment ) on occupation duty after the war. If you look at his CIB you will see the same SSI pin on his CIB.

rd12 Posted October 14, 2019 Share #1924 Posted October 14, 2019 And this interesting boxed CIB, US made I'm thinking, but not gov't contract. No maker's marks. Probably 1960's-70's era.
rd12 Posted October 14, 2019 Share #1925 Posted October 14, 2019 Here's a early miniature CIB. This is made by Vanguard and marked with their earlier logo & V-21. Notice they used the "GEMSCO" pattern with acorns.
