patches Posted April 10, 2014 Share #1026 Posted April 10, 2014 Für vhat purpose was the M16 one made up for? Certainly not for wear, would this be a late Vietnam war era modified item?
CHASEUSA11B Posted April 11, 2014 Share #1027 Posted April 11, 2014 This badge in unofficial - but I think it fits in this topic. C. Polk badge, Michael Tucker's book dates its manufacture to 1960-62. Musket has been replaced by a well crafted M-16 ( not original to the C. Polk badge ). M-16 appears to be sterling. Aahh, you outbid me on that one.... These are currently on eBay
rd12 Posted April 20, 2014 Share #1028 Posted April 20, 2014 Here is an example of a German-made "BEVO" badge. This is in un-used condition.
rd12 Posted April 20, 2014 Share #1029 Posted April 20, 2014 In this example the badge has been sewn around a piece of thick cloth to give it some firmness. This badge has been cut off of a uniform. This badge seems to match the construction of the badge in the post above.
rd12 Posted April 20, 2014 Share #1030 Posted April 20, 2014 This is a more unusual badge with regards to the cloth used. The rifle, wreath, and blue background match the others, however a darker olive-green cloth has been used for the rest of the badge. This color cloth matches some WW2 German tropical uniforms I have seen.
rd12 Posted April 20, 2014 Share #1031 Posted April 20, 2014 One last example, again same details to the "badge" but on a lighter background. This badge was nicely hand stitched onto a shirt at one time.
rd12 Posted April 25, 2014 Share #1032 Posted April 25, 2014 Here is a picture that I pulled off of eBay today. Badge is marked S-21 STERLING on the back. Sort of neat to see the card with code ( S-21) and manufacturer's name.
Jim Baker Posted April 26, 2014 Share #1033 Posted April 26, 2014 Finally picked up a little better condition German made badge. For some reason the blue seems to peel off these. This one is pretty much intact.
Jim Baker Posted May 10, 2014 Share #1034 Posted May 10, 2014 Just picked up another of these GEMSCO badges with the variant rifle. I think these versions have a neat look to them. I was actually surprised I got it for what I did, but I guess every once in a while you can still get lucky. Anyone know what era this is from? Thanks!! rd12 Posted May 10, 2014 Share #1035 Posted May 10, 2014 Nice badge, is this the one that was on ebay just recently? This pattern (rifle style and 4 acorns) matches a 2nd award GEMSCO CIB that Mike Tucker's book dates 1955-1962.
Jim Baker Posted May 10, 2014 Share #1036 Posted May 10, 2014 Nice badge, is this the one that was on ebay just recently? This pattern (rifle style and 4 acorns) matches a 2nd award GEMSCO CIB that Mike Tucker's book dates 1955-1962. Yes it was. I try to stick to WWII badges but some of these are just really nice variations and it's a nice little sideline. Thanks for the date info. If I keep on I'm just going to have to buy Mike's book. rd12 Posted May 14, 2014 Share #1037 Posted May 14, 2014 Something I'm always on the lookout for are CIBs that have been fixed and/or modified. Here is a badge that has had one pin removed, and a screw-back added. Note that one pin was left on to keep badge straight on the uniform.
rd12 Posted May 14, 2014 Share #1038 Posted May 14, 2014 Here are two badges that have had the pins removed and replaced with safety pins. Note that the second badge is a two-piece badge ( EIB & wreath ) and the wreath has been soldered on as well.
rd12 Posted May 14, 2014 Share #1039 Posted May 14, 2014 Here are two badges that have been converted to pin-backs. The first uses what appears to be a ribbon bar that is secured by bending back the pins. The second looks as though a jeweler did the modification based on the quality of the pin and clasp. Jim Baker Posted May 14, 2014 Share #1040 Posted May 14, 2014 Here's one for you. A tie clip.
rd12 Posted May 15, 2014 Share #1041 Posted May 15, 2014 That is very cool. I'm picturing some businessman now in suit and tie with a full-size CIB front and center!
WAHOOMAN Posted May 25, 2014 Share #1042 Posted May 25, 2014 Here is my cloth CIB. I picked up the CIB at a local flea market.

rd12 Posted June 7, 2014 Share #1044 Posted June 7, 2014 I've been looking for this version for awhile - Japanese made with "skinny" wreath.
Jim Baker Posted June 7, 2014 Share #1045 Posted June 7, 2014 I've been looking for this version for awhile - Japanese made with "skinny" wreath. Was this one on eBay just a few days ago? Nice badge. I like it.
rd12 Posted June 8, 2014 Share #1046 Posted June 8, 2014 No, picked this up in the "for sale" section the other day. Member CNY Militaria had some really nice CIBs for sale. If there was another on eBay I missed it.
Jim Baker Posted June 8, 2014 Share #1047 Posted June 8, 2014 Darn, I can't believe I missed this. Congrats to you, it's a nice badge.
rd12 Posted July 4, 2014 Share #1048 Posted July 4, 2014 Thought I would take some time on my day off to share some of my recent acquisitions. This is a Korean or possibly Vietnamese made badge, note the unique leaf detail; no veins, just two lines running down the middle. None of my other badges have this type of leaf. rd12 Posted July 4, 2014 Share #1049 Posted July 4, 2014 I saw another badge like this posted on the forum and have wanted one ever since - wreath has been filed down and polished. Also, hard to tell from the pics but badge has been slightly bent to give it a subtle curve. I've seen airborne wings with a similar treatment to the wing and chute. Back of the badge is nothing special, WWII era, "sterling" marked.
rd12 Posted July 4, 2014 Share #1050 Posted July 4, 2014 Here is another modified badge. This badge has had the pins removed and a barrel-type clasp added instead. Well done work, most likely by a jeweler. Front of the badge is standard Meyer pattern.
