VA-75 Puncher Posted November 28, 2022 Share #1 Posted November 28, 2022 ....life's been busy here lately,so I havent had much time to work on models, but after 6 months of doing just a bit at a time I finally completed another 1:32 scale Trumpeter A-6 Intruder during the period I served with the squadron...this one is from very early 1973 after we VA-75 Sunday Punchers had completed a costly Vietnam/WESTPAC cruise and were heading back home to Mayport Florida where the USS Saratoga was home ported... during the trip back it was decided by the Commander that we would change the colors and style of ship designator lettering....it used to be block style "AC"....it changed to oriental style script "AC"...in the first iteration, the AC was inclined at an angle downward and facing forward (later in '73 when back at NAS Oceana we straightened the AC back up and centered)...I've added a couple pics from much later publications of this aircraft first its first new "paint job"....at the time it bore the name of our Commander Bill Greene-pilot and B/N LCDR John Pieno....among other challenges this kit gave me was that the decals with these crew names did not exist....I had to literally go thru every decal I had from other sets and cut out each and every teeny letter to make the correct name-and even THEN I couldnt find enough enough correct letters for Pieno,so I took the liberty of making it LCDR Hal King (who did fly with CDR Greene, especially on one harrowing mission in particular over North Vietnam-a story for another time....and after Pieno left,Hal's name replaced it anyway) ....biggest challenge on this was that I made it wings up and folded....it was a real pain🤣....but its done now and sits on the flight line with the other 3 I've already finished (slowly building up my squadron😄)....its not exact, but as close as I can get it ......pics photo dump presented here for your perusal...🙂
cutiger83 Posted November 28, 2022 Share #2 Posted November 28, 2022 Very nice! I love the weathering and the pilots. Interesting about the change in the lettering on the tail. ...Kat

ArtyScout Posted December 2, 2022 Share #9 Posted December 2, 2022 Seeing that Intruder with a flight deck background readying it's wings for a combat flight would DEFINITELY make Allan think that this was a real plane. Your work is astounding. Semper Fi Manny
