tredhed2 Posted November 27, 2022 Share #4 Posted November 27, 2022 Authorized insignia means both the design and sample were approved (during WW II) by the Office of the Quartermaster General - OQMG). Once both of those happened, the insignia could be made by an approved manufacturer. In the case of your DI, one or both criteria were not met, but the unit decided to have the DIs made anyway (the battalion CO probably approved it).
