Civil War Medal of Honor - Orson Bennet

The family of Orson Bennet has loaned his Medal of Honor to a local museum. It'll be going on display soon. After the local museum announces the medal being on display I'll release the name of it here. It's interesting that a fob was added to the reverse, but it obviously obscures the inscription.

Looks like it was gilted as part of the modification.

Yes, it looks like that to me as well. I recall the original finish on these was a dull bronze color, similar to WW1 collar disks.

I think the fob is a GAR post badge in the shape of a canteen.  There was a popular poem called "We Drank From the Same Canteen", so canteens were a popular motif in reunion / veteran souvenirs.
