AKC123 Posted November 19, 2022 Share #1 Posted November 19, 2022 I’m hoping someone here can answer a question about a mount I saw online. Usually the black mounts are bare of any markings and the tan ones usually have the T that I assume is for titanium. I saw this mount with Ti stamped into it. Anyone know why? Was it some kind of transitional period type? Or some off brand knock off or something? Never seen another like it. Thanks
Cap Camouflage Pattern I Posted December 24, 2022 Share #2 Posted December 24, 2022 Originally they were made by the civilian company ITT and were unmarked. In 2006 the US military obtained the rights to manufacture them in house which was done at two army depots; Tobyhana and Letterkenny. Tobyhana marked theirs on the front with either "T", "T1" (which is what yours is, the font just looks like an "I") or "T2", they also sometimes marked them on the back of the clip with "TYAD". Letterkenny marked theirs with a "L" on the front. I am unsure of the significance of the different Tobyhana markings. They are all made of aluminum, the difference in color is just due to different anodizing. I think the change to tan was for camouflage purposes but I am not certain on that. Dont forget there is a silver/grey color mount as well that seemed to come out in the latter part of the UCP camo days. Tan def seemed to be when they went over to OCP camo.
