Please, could anyone measure how wide the orange or yellow stripe on the reel is?

Will check next weekend and post it here....

Johan

Hello Johan,

nice job!

I have the axle brackets from cast iron, too.. I did not know that the wheels on utility carts have no bearings! It's really interesting..

On my cart there were parts panted just Swiss grey with no OD under, it looks the Swiss army had a little more time to paint it than the WWII manufacturer ;)

It seemed, that there was some light green primer on the wheels under the OD... but I haven't found any primer on other parts.. but I painted it all parts with a red primer... and dissembled, I hope you won't punish me for that... I have left the original OD on the inner part of the rim...

your dataplte looks very good, mine still has a little bits of grey paint left.

Sending here a photo of the cart dessembled as you got on your web ;)

I really like the tires!

Frankie

On one reel it's 2 inches 3/8 and the other it's 2 inches 5/8...

or roughly 65mm

Hello, thank you, aspecially for the milimetres :o))

I wanted to paint it on my DR-15, but then I realized, that the colour of the stipe marks the type of the cable and there was a completely other type of cable on the DR-15, so I am not going to paint it there anymore.. maybe just a little "DR-15" writing?

More proof that the Swiss took it apart to repaint it in gray, but that these were originally painted OD after assembly...

Today upon assembling the rims and tires, I noticed yet another difference between the two original tires on this cart...

Both are Firestone Champions, but the font of the name is larger on one tire than on the other...

Most bolts are not marked except for two models which are marked E.C., the same company that supplied bolts to Willys Overland for use on their Jeeps...

Nice work, Johan! You haven't put the tires down for painting? I have, with dome rubber-friendly lubricant it goes smoothly with no damage to tires or wheels...

Looking forward to next photos..

Hi there everyone.

I'm a new member from across the sea and have just brought a RL-35 Signal Corp Wire cart. It is almost there althou missing the DL- 4 reels and rl-27 bits. The ones that came with it are wrong. i'm having a terrible job trying to locate over here in the UK, and being a serving soldier don't get that time to look round. Any idea's or leads folks

Wasn'this on milweb?

Anyway you have at least one GC15 crank and the RL27. They are attached on the top of the frame where they shouldn't be.

The separate axle laying on the floor and the one currently attached to the front of the cart are/is the one that should go up there.

DR4 are around at swap meets or militaria shows...

GC15 and the GC10 Brakes are quite hard but not impossible to find...

Let me know if you'll be at Beltring next month.

Maybe we can meet up and talk reelcarts...

JOhan

Hi JOhan,

thanks mate,

yes this was the one on Milweb, the two axles on the front front will not fit onto the top as the round part that sits into the spindels are not long enough. they have no serial marking on so think they maybe post war. the hand crank has a circular hole that fits into the handel and will go into the front.

i will be at Beltring next month from the thursday till sunday and will have the cart there with me. I would love to talk carts and find out a little more about them.

Strange and maybe not that visible on these pictures.

I will be in Beltring on the Saturday.

I will gladly try to come over and see the cart and see if I can help you.

Will contact you a couple of days before.

Johan
