flyingtigerfan Posted November 14, 2022 Share #1 Posted November 14, 2022 Hi all, Picked up this officer sword recently. I’m more of a Wwii collector but it intrigued me being named. Not sure if the first letter is a T or J and no idea what the second letter is. Anybody have an ideas and now to research this officer? Thanks. -Rob
sundance Posted November 14, 2022 Share #2 Posted November 14, 2022 I'd say T. A. Hall but that's just a guess. The middle initial looks like an "A" over a backwards "C". Is there a maker's name on the sword anywhere?
flyingtigerfan Posted November 14, 2022 Author Share #3 Posted November 14, 2022 Yes, the middle initial looks odd, no maker mark.
BBG Posted November 18, 2022 Share #4 Posted November 18, 2022 Beautiful sword! Here's a T.A. Hall listed in the Register of the commissioned and warrant officers of the United States Navy and Marine Corps and reserve officers on active duty 1863-1864. https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=mdp.39015025949028&view=1up&seq=131&q1=hall He was on the USS Brandywine (formerly named Susquehanna). Quite an historic ship!
