North Carolina Helmet?

Hello all,

 

I got these pictures of a helmet that a friend of mine from NC has. Would anyone happen to be familiar with the painted insignia? I was thinking it might be CO. H of some unit but thats just a guess. Also pardon my ignorance as I usually deal with patches but would this happen to be a British style helmet? Any help is appreciated.

This is just my guess, but possibly the 80th Infantry Division/317th Regiment/2nd Battalion

I believe further research has determined that the diamond insignia was for the 319th Infantry Regiment.  Either way, it's an 80th Division helmet.
