Ok. Then you will want Double buckle boots probably for a repro. Epicmiliraia has cheaper boots that are pretty decent. I don't personally own a pair, but many people I know do and they like them.

No leggings worn at all in Korea really (Only by marines since they had low boots). The two buckles served as the leggings with the boots.

Example of Marines boarding transport with their leggings

Example of the M48's in use. They were very similar to paratrooper boots

And M43's in use

So an interesting topic, I think the Army also used these flaks for a time with marines. M48's were used predominantly by the army, but like most things in the supply chain, marines stole some stuff. The guy behind him actually has M43's on. I think that photo was taken while training a foregin army.

The difference in M48 and Paratrooper boots are no ankle reinforcement, paratrooper boots have this.

Also no stamped holes in the toe cap, and it had a full rubber sole, not just the halves like the paratrooper ones.

Hope this helps a little bit more

is there a way I can give them that russet look that I have seen on later M43s?

Yes. You are going to want to apply layer after layer of dubbing. Then they will get smooth like you see there.
