help identifying German canteen

I had this for awhile. I find it strange just because it has a weird cap.

Standard German 'm31' type canteen made in 1942. There are lots of variations to component pieces for German gear. Likely brought back during/after WW2 and well used here in the US. Just fyi you'll likely be asked to move this post to WMF. Take care

This was brought back by my great uncle. Hasn’t left the closet in 80+ yrs

You should post it in the souvenirs of war section with the unit information about your great uncle that brought it back!
